Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join their Finance team. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of their financial reporting, with a strong focus on regulatory accounting and detailed financial analysis. The ideal candidate is a designated CPA with a solid background in financial analysis and a deep understanding of IFRS and regulatory reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Compliance:
Preparation and review of inputs into the consolidated financial statement note disclosures on a quarterly basis.
Prepares routine and non-routine journal entries and reconciliations on a monthly and quarterly basis.
Remains current and compliant with emerging IFRS and Accounting Procedures Handbook (APH) accounting and disclosure requirements and implementation of those accounting standard changes.
Regulatory & Operational Support:
Provides reliable financial information, analysis, and operational support related to electricity regulatory filings and other internal management reporting requirements.
Implements accounting, organizational, and regulatory policies and the associated internal control activities, including supporting external auditors.
Analysis & Communication:
Discusses financial performance in terms of key value drivers of the business and clearly communicates the analysis behind the numbers.
Performs ad hoc analysis, special projects, and initiatives as needed.
Process Improvement & Leadership:
Improves productivity in processes, which may include re-engineering current processes and finding automation and efficiencies through the use of IT tools.
Implements risk management and internal controls, including assessment and monitoring whether internal controls in place are adequately designed and operating effectively.
Tracks and monitors progress of key projects and initiatives to facilitate company-wide accountability.
Leads meetings/initiatives with business units and cross-functional teams;influences others with respect to obtaining required inputs, timelines, and achieving desired outcomes.
Skills & Experience Required
Education: Bachelor/Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited school.
Professional Designation: Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Designation in Canada is required.
Experience: Five (5) or more years of progressive financial analysis experience.
Knowledge: Understanding of regulatory accounting and MIFRS is highly desired.
